Designing music

Otomata music sequencer
Wonder what our initial sounds like...?

Got a little time to explore? Batuhan Bozkurt has designed a simple, fascinating music player you can easily program yourself. Just click a few boxes in the grid to generate some lovely little rhythmic melodies. Dubbed Otomata, it’s a generative sequencer tuned to the scale of a set of Hang drums (have to admit I had no idea what those were until moments ago).

Here’s a sample piece someone built. But it’s more fun to build your own. Fool around with it over the weekend. It’s really pretty cool.
